A British Friend from New Zealand

Yesterday I met a new friend named Sue, a British woman who has lived in New Zealand for many years already and is currently in Thailand to work as a teacher. Quite a traveler right? Yes she is. Officially, yesterday was her second day and so I was like a policeman for asking her a lot of questions. Like, how she finds the weather in here and how she thinks about the place. Good thing, the lady was very gracious to answer all my queries with sincere smiles. She also talked briefly about how she likes New Zealand to make it her second home country. My interest about this country is renewed again. Maybe the next time I’ll bump into her I’ll ask her if it’s possible to go around New Zealand by car hire.

While I was waiting for the bus for Phuket last week, I met Gary from Liverpool, United Kingdom who was also going in the same route as mine. I learned that he has been in Thailand for five years now and is happily married to a Thai woman and  is doing  Muay Thai training for a living.

Muay Thai…who would not know it? It’s the Thai boxing which is all over Thai TV all throughout the day. It is also making a name globally with lots and lots of foreigners wanting to learn the sport. Gary said, Muay Thai isn’t just all about sport – it is also an excellent tool for self-defense. He even invited me to try one session to see if I might like it.

I told him that maybe for now I’ll settle for some stun gun for my self-defense. Muay Thai is just not too fit for me.

New Year’s Resolution

This is going to be my first blog entry for this year 2012 and quite a comeback article after a long period of self – imposed vacation from the blogging world. I felt that my eyes had suffered much with my constant love affair with computers not to mention the boredom syndrome that struck me  so I needed to take a break.

Anyhow, I’m back again and here’s my CHEERS of a HAPPY NEW YEAR to the world.

When I was still a student, the first day of classes in the new year would always means writing our new year’s resolution. I remember my teacher would always instruct us to write our goals  enough to consume the whole period which of course, though how much we don’t like, still we obliged  ourselves to do or we start the year as the object of our teacher’s wrath. “These resolutions are only in paper anyways…” so as I thought.

But now as I ponder about it,  having a new year’s resolution is actually a good thing to do. Anyway we call it – goals , plans, resolutions, targets, etc. The list can guide us as to the path that we would like to take. We may not accomplish everything that we have proposed to do, it surely will delight us if we have checked   several items by the time we need to make another list for the new year that comes.

I have much in my list already which I’d like to share in the forthcoming days and just to give you a preview, one thing is for sure, it includes a purchase of a new pair of eyeglasses for my precious eyes.
